Fruits, vegetables export grew 41 pc in 2009-10: Sharma
New Delhi, July 27 (PTI) Total export value of fruitsand vegetables grew 41 per cent in 2009-10 to Rs 5,17,330 overRs 3,65,915 of 2008-09, Commerce Minister Anand Sharmainformed the Parliament today। In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Sharmasaid that quantity-wise fruits and vegetables export grew 53per cent to 26,46,266 million tonnes in 2008-09 over 17,24,574million tonnes in 2007-08. Value-wise also export in 2008-09 rose by 50 per cent toRs 3,65,915 over Rs 2,43,713 in 2007-08. Quantity-wise increase in fruits and vegetables export in2009-10 over 2008-09 could not be gauged as figures for2009-10 are not available. "The export of fruits and vegetables has registered agrowth of over 112 per cent during the last three years(2007-08 to 2009-10) in terms of value," Sharma said. The minister further said that government has beenextending financial assistance to registered exporters throughAPEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products ExportDevelopment Authority) for encouraging export of commodities,including fruits and vegetables through its various schemes. He added that financial assistance to exportersregistered with APEDA ultimately benefits the farmers andgrowers of the fruits and vegetables in terms of remunerativeprices for their produce. (पीटीआई)
