Turmeric, jeera up on rising demand

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Turmeric and jeera prices todayincreased by Rs 100 per quintal each largely on the back ofstrong domestic and export demand admist tight stockspositions. Turmeric prices shot up by Rs 100 higher at Rs4,700-6,200 per quintal. Jeera common and jeera best quality prices also edged upby Rs 100 each to 10,800-11,300 and Rs 13,300-13,800 perquintal respectively. Marketmen said apart from strong export and domesticdemand, fall in supplies from producing belts also pushed upturmeric and jeera prices on the kirana market here. They said festive season demand also attributed rise inthe spice prices. Following were today's quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 5,500-8,500 Black pepper common 14,700-14,800Betelnut (kg) 100-115, cardamom brown (Jhundiwali)14,000-14,100 and cardamom brown (Kanchicut) 16,000-19,000. Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 510-570, cardamom (colourrobin) 575-585, cardamom bold 585-595, cardamom extra (bold)710-720 and cloves (kg) 260-300.
