New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) India today allowed the export of 25,000 tonnes of maize to the African countries like Kenya, Somalia and Burundi on humanitarian ground.
"Ban on export of maize shall not be applicable to export of 25000 MTs of maize to Kenya, Somalia and Burundi for UN humanitarian relief operations in these countries, a notification by Directorate General of Foreign Trade said.
Maize would be exported by New Delhi-based Emmsons International under United Nations World Food Programme to these countries.
The government has banned export of maize on July 3 to boost domestic supplies and keep a check on soaring inflation, which has since than touched about 12 per cent.
The ban would remain in force till October 15. PTI
