NEW DELHI: In order to increase domestic supply, State Trading Corporation has invited bids for sale of 3,260 tonnes of imported pulses.
Bids would close on August 11 and the decision on the tender would be taken on August 18, the company said on its Web site. STC plans to sell 2,960 tonnes of black mapte whole (urad) and 300 tonnes of desi chick peas (chana).
The pulses were grown during 2007-08 season, it said. It said black mapte whole has been sourced from Myanmar, while chick peas from Australia. India imports pulses as output is lower than demand. Pulses production is estimated at 15.19 million tonnes in 2007-08 crop year, while the domestic demand is around 17-18 mt. - PTI
