NEW DELHI: State-run trading firm MMTC on Friday invited bids from domestic traders for sale of 2,000 tons of imported green gram (moong). The bids would close on August 27 and the decision on the tender would be taken by August 29, the company said on i ts Web site.
MMTC plans to source green gram grown during 2008 season from Myanmar. The shipped containers are expected to arrive at Mumbai port between August and September, it said.
Bidders can quote for 1,000 tons, MMTC said, adding that preference would be given to those who bid for the full quantity. They are also encouraged to quote for higher quantity as the same can be increased based on the bids received, it added. India im ports pulses as output is lower than demand. Pulses production is estimated at 15.19 million tons in 2007-08 crop year, while the domestic demand is around 17-18 million tons. - PTI
