Madhya Pradesh:- According to the data collected from the Director / Joint Agriculture / Dy. Directors of Agriculture from the districts 51.43 Lakh ha, (Target 47.75 Lakh ha) area was sown in M.P. As the weather continues to remain open, sowings were continued till the end of second week and early part of third week of July.
This year early rains were there in the second week of June so the sowing was started in Mandsaur, Ratlam, Raisen, Rajgarh, Sager Damoh, Indore, Dhar, Vidisha, Guna Shivpuri Ashoknagar and Ujjain districts (M.P. sown area 10.624 Lakh ha up to 20/6/08) After this early out break of monsoon the later rains were delayed.
Normal to Deficient rainfall was experienced in the last week of June and first week of July 08. After early spell of rains, gap in rains was observed delaying the sowing in the most of the Soybean area. Then the sowing was continued till the last week of July. However the germination is good and crop sustained the drought spell.
The germination in this early sown crop was good and the crop is showing good growth, Intercultural operation and weed control measures were undertaken. Minor incidence of Pest was reported due to cloudy weather but it was controlled by timely spraying. The farmers were advised to conserve the moisture in field and take precautions against weedicide.
Now the sowing has been more or less completed in Soybean crop and growth in general with the rains improving in last week of July 08 .The crop was good in early sown area.
There was marginal increase of area in Ujjain, Indore, Bhopal divisions, Guna, Shivpuri, and Ashoknagar district.
Maharashtra:- In Maharashtra area under Soybean sown was 27.436 Lakh ha against sown area of 22.852 Lakh ha. during the corresponding period last year.
Crop sown early in some areas (9.46830 Lakh ha by 6/7/08) has shown good germination and having good growth. Good sowings were observed in districts like Amrawati, Akola, Washim and Nagpur.
Revival of rains since the last week of July has resulted in narrowing of the area gap for the soybean crop in Latoor and Nasik division. Early sown crop has entered the flowering phase. In the late sown crop, condition is fairly good and it may improve with rains in late August and early September.
Marginal incidence of Semi-looper caterpillar was observed which is being controlled by timely spraying.
Rajasthan:- In Rajasthan the sowings were started with the monsoon, area sown till date was 8.49 Lakh ha. The crop condition is average to good. No incidence of pest and diseases are reported.
Rest of India
The area sown in other states such as Karnataka was1.87 Lakh ha, Andhra Pradesh was 1.45 Lakh ha, Chattishgarh 1.2 Lakh ha is marginally higher than last year and rest of India including Gujarat 0.79 Lakh ha.
The total coverage of the Soybean area including all the states comes to 92.666 Lakh ha. as against sown area of Kharif 2007 of 88.496 Lakh ha.
