Kochi, March:
Pepper prices recovered on good overseas and domestic enquiries amid a
sudden squeeze in supply. Hike in Vietnam prices in recent days has made
Malabar competitive attracting enquiries from overseas markets. Vietnam
has raised its prices to $9,500 a tonne c&f for Europe where as the
Indian export price is $9,150. On the terminal market, 50 tonnes of
pepper from Kerala were traded at ₹540 a kg while 20 tonnes from
Karnataka was traded at ₹525. On the IPSTA platform March and April
contracts were up by ₹505 a quintal each to ₹56,600 and ₹53,363
respectively. Spot prices moved up by ₹500 to ₹53,000 (ungarbled) and
₹56,000 (garbled). (Business Line)
