New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh will have to pay farmers an extra Rs 1,480 crore by September 6 as the Supreme Court today refused to stay the Allahabad High Court judgement that asked them to pay the state-advised price of Rs 125-130 per quintal for the 2007-08 season. The High Court while upholding SAP of Rs 125-130 a quintal modified its interim order that asked mills to pay Rs 110 a quintal. It also asked the sugar mills to pay the difference of Rs 15 a quintal by September 6.A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat refused to accede to the request of sugar mills to extend time by two more days for making payments till the matter is heared on next Monday (September 8). The time to make payment, as per the HC judgement, expires on September 6.The effect of today's development is that the state can initiate recovery proceedings, including attachment of the property of the sugar mills, arrest of company's principle officers and auction a property to liquidate unpaid liability.UP counsel Viplav Sharma also told the court that some petitioners were still in default as they had failed to pay sugarcane prices for the 2007-08 season at the rate of Rs 110 per quintal as directed by the apex court in its interim order.
