Govt' wheat procurement doubles within four days

Govt' & chr(39) & 's wheat procurement doubles within four days
New Delhi, Apr 13 (PTI) The Centre' & chr(39) & 's wheat procurement
doubled to 41.69 lakh tonnes in four days alone, with maximum
purchases being done in Haryana and Punjab.
The government had procured 20.79 lakh tonnes till April
8 this season, which increased to 41.69 lakh tonnes as on
April 12, according to official data.
Interestingly, the government agencies purchased over 90
per cent of wheat arrived in the market. So far, wheat arrival
stood at 43.62 lakh tonnes, it said.
In the last four days, the Centre has purchased maximum
wheat in Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.
Wheat purchases in Haryana increased to 21.11 lakh
tonnes on April 12 from 11.83 lakh tonnes on April 8. In
Punjab, it rose to 12.42 lakh tonnes from 3.3 lakh tonnes on
April 8, the data showed.
In Madhya Pradesh, purchases increased to 5.32 lakh
tonnes from 4.16 lakh tonnes, while in Rajasthan, it rose to
1.78 lakh tonnes on April 12 from 1.2 lakh tonnes four days
before, it said.
As the harvest festival Baisakhi ends today, the arrivals
are expected to pick up in Punjab, a senior official said. PTI
