The Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), which entered into force on January 1, 2015, will create new opportunities for Canadian farmers in the Korean market.
According to the Canadian government, the CKFTA will eliminate tariffs on over 97 percent of Canadian agricultural exports to Korea and on 86.8 percent of agricultural tariff lines.
Tariffs will be phased out over three to five years for: chick peas, lentils and broad beans, refined canola oil, wheat flour, confectionary products, cranberry and blueberry juice.
More gradual phase-out periods cover dried peas, kidney beans, mung beans, beef, pork, adzuki beans, crude canola oil, and frozen and dried blueberries and cranberries. (Agriwatch)
