Indian Government Ups Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Arhar or Tur to Rs. 3,200 Per 100 Kgs
The Government of India has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of arhar (pigeon peas) or tur of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) from Rs. 3,000 per quintal (100 Kilograms) to Rs. 3,200 per quintal for the crop year 2011-2012 and marketing season 2012-2013.
This is an increase of Rs. 200 a quintal or 6.67 percent over last year’s Minimum Support Price fixed for arhar or tur.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) took this decision to hike the MSP of arhar (tur) in its meeting held on Thursday, June 09, 2011 in New Delhi.
Every year, the Government of India determines the Minimum Support Price of arhar based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP).
Like last year, this year too, an additional incentive of Rs. 500 per quintal for arhar (tur) sold to the Government Procurement Agencies will be paid to the farmers during the harvest and arrival period of two months.
