New Delhi. India’s New sugar season 2015-16 (Oct-Sep) is likely to start with a
record opening stock of 9.6 million up 28% on year, said a senior official of
Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA).
Last year opening stock was 7.5
million ton.
“Huge opening stocks-equivalent
to domestic consumption of nearly four and half months- is really a concern as
heavy amount has been blocked in the stocks,” a senior official of ISMA.
Sugar season 2014-15 had started
with an opening stock of 7.5 million ton and with estimated output of 28.3
million ton total availability in the current year is 35.8 million.
India exported 1.1 million ton
sugar and with estimated domestic consumption of 25.1 million ton, total 26.2
million ton of sugar will be liquated during the year leaving a balance of 9.6
ton, showed ISMA data.
