The Indian government hopes to secure a one million ton rice
export deal with Indonesia, which is likely to experience a decline in rice
production this year due to ongoing dry conditions. Indonesia is expecting a
fall in rice production this year and looking to import rice. Indonesia has
started the negotiation process. Indonesia rice imports in MY 2015-16 are
likely to increase by around 60% from last year imports of 1.18 million tons to
1.90 million tons.
