DAILY COTTON MARKET REPORT DT. 28/08/2008

NORTH
Weather remained quite clear and humid. Market remained strong with some very good buying in ready as well as in forward. Offering in Sept. delivery particularly in Punjab is very poor as ginners has committed not to make any sale. In forward Haryana J-34 RG is quoted for Sept. and October delivery @ Rs. 2705/- and 2600/- respectively. Y/day arrival was around 150 maund or 12 bales mainly in the area of Punjab.
GUJARAT
Weather remained mostly clear with some passing clouds and light showers in North Gujarat area. Market advanced further as few lots of Shanker in Saurastra area has changed their hands at 28800/- per candy whereas October delivery sold @ 26750/- per candy.
MAHARASHTRA
Weather remained mostly clear during the day hours but again it was cloudy in the evening with some light showers in Marathwada area. Market remained strong with some buying from Southern and local Cooperative mills.
SNIPPETS :
1. Egypt planted 316234 feddan to cotton 2008-09. Decline of 44% from previous year 60095 feddans . A Feddan is equal to 1.038 acres or .42 hectares.

2. In USA one in six plants across the cotton belt has bolls already opened, a few days behind the five year average of 19% for the same weak. The progress from last week slowed from trend, in part owing to deluge of rains from tropical storm Fay and slow advancement in Texas,.

3. The Chinese Govt. through the Gen Administration of quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has announced a new registration procedure for cotton exporters to China. Stating on Sept. 15 the AQSID will develop a ranking system of suppliers iIn meeting the quality of cotton delivery.

4. The ABRAPA (Brazilian Cotton Produce Association) has forcast that 2009 planted cotton acreage will decline by 10% from 2008. (K.C.T & ASSOCIATES)
